Fees
Mr Allibone is registered with and recognised by all of the UK medical insurance companies.
Depending on your policy, Mr Allibone’s fees may not be fully reimbursed by your insurance company. Please contact your insurer before your consultation or any procedure, to check the terms of your policy and the level of out-patient cover that you have. Please satisfy yourself that your insurer will cover the fees or, if they will not, that you are aware of the amount of short-fall*. Please note that you are responsible for any fees or part fees that are not covered by your insurer.
Out-patient fees will be stated to you prior to your appointment but are likely to be as stated below.
There is significant variety in the scope and complexity of spinal surgical procedures. Should a procedure be necessary, you will receive a written quotation prior to the procedure. You will also be provided with the Procedure (CCSD) Code. This will allow you to check with your insurance company as to any potential shortfall*.
Typical Out-Patient Fees
New Patient appointment: usually £280
Follow up appointment: usually £180
Complex appointment: up to £500
Telephone appointment: up to £300
Self-Funding
If you are self-funding, you will be responsible for the cost of consultations, investigations and treatment. Please be certain that you understand the cost of appointments and treatment and that these are affordable for you. Any quote for treatment will have three components to it:
-
The Surgeons Fee. This fee covers the surgical procedure and the first out-patient appointment
-
The Anaesthetists Fee. Typically, this is 50% of the surgeon’s fee.
-
The Hospital Fee This includes the cost of using the hospital facilities and the cost of any surgical implants.
Additional information
As understanding the costs of private healthcare can be complicated the Federation for Independent Practitioner Organisations (FIPO) have written a number of documents to help explain the costs and processes involved in accessing private healthcare.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have mandated that the fees related to treatment should be supplied to you. A separate letter will be forwarded to you once your initial appointment is arranged.
*Shortfalls
You may be told by your insurance company that Mr Allibone’s fees are ‘more than customary’ or ‘higher than usual’. For clarity, Mr Allibone’s out-patient fees have not increased in the last 10 years. Whilst most of the insurance companies do reimburse fully, some have chosen to reduce their level of reimbursement. Mr Allibone’s fees are in fact broadly typical for a spinal surgeon of his seniority and experience.
